MIDDLE SCHOOL STRENGTH TRAINING
Orientation for 12, 13, & 14 year olds who would like access to the SMB & Free Weight Rooms. Staff will provide knowledge needed to use the facility independently and responsibly. The orientation will highlight the correct use of cardiovascular equipment, proper weight lifting techniques, strength training principles, safety rules at the Y along with the Y’s behavior expectation and more.
Pre-registration is required. Payment in full is due at registration.

Fountain Lake 5
The Fountain Lake 5 is a five mile run, jog, or walk around Fountain Lake and takes place on April 20. Entry includes a dry-fit t-shirt and post-race refreshments. Awards are given to the top male and female and to the 1st-3rd place finishers in age groups. The race starts and ends at Brookside school and is done in conjunction with the Tiger Trot 5k race. Childrens’ fun runs also take place the same morning at Brookside. Look for brochures at the Y for more details.

HEALTHY FOR LIFE
Most of us know it is important to eat healthy and to exercise, yet we have a hard time putting these thoughts into actions. The new and improved Healthy for Life program incorporates both fitness and food education. The nutrition piece of the program focuses on healthy eating and weight control using a non-diet approach and goal setting. The workouts at the Y are simple but efficient and are designed for those just starting out. If you’re struggling with putting your good intentions into action, this program is for you!
What: A 12 week program that meets twice each week - once a week at Hy-Vee for a healthy eating class and once a week at the YMCA for a group fitness class.
When: Hy-Vee classes are Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
Workouts at the YMCA are Tuesdays from 6:30-7:20 pm.
You can participate in one or both classes. Sign up for each class separately.
Healthy for Life class at Hy-Vee: $80. Register for this class through Community Education at www.gatherdiscovergrow.org

Healthy for Life class at Y: $35. for non-Y members.
Free for members. Sign up at the YMCA for this option

Water Classes
Deep Water Workout
Because this class is done in the deep water, zero impact is experienced by the joints. Intermediate and advanced levels. No swimming experience is needed, a float belt can be worn.

Swimnastics
Enjoy a refreshing workout as you tone and strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. This shallow water class enables you to exercise with less strain and impacts on joints.

Joints in Motion
This water exercise clas is for any age male or female that experiences mobility issues such as arthritis, MS, or injuries. The low impact movements and range of motion exercises will keep your body healthy and your joints moving.

Joints in Motion 2
This class is the advanced more intense version of the joints in motion class. Class includes range of movement exercises, low and high impact movements, intensity intervals, and strength training. Keep your body moving and healthy!

Come for a great well rounded workout that spends equal amounts of time focusing on cardio, upper body and lower body exercises.

CSI: Cardio Strength Interval
Alternate 45 second time segments of cardio and strength training exercises and you got one great workout! Get in an many reps as you can (or care to) in each time segment and modify each exercise to your liking; this is why all levels are welcome! No dance-like choreography, just exercise.

Fired Up
This high energy, non-stop workout combines blocks of high intensity intervals, total body weight training, kickboxing, and step to torch calories and sculpt your body. Some choreography.

Healthy for Life
A simple but efficient workout designed for those who are just getting started. This 50-minuite total body workout utilizes the cardio and strength training machines in the SMB room. This class is the 2nd pillar of Hy-Vee’s Healthy for Life program. Healthy for LIfe is a 12-week program that meets twice a week; once at Hy-Vee for healthy eating class and once at the Y for this class. See the previous page for more information. There is limited space so non-menbers and members must sign up in advance!

Kettlebells
Take part in one of the latest and most populoar fitness crazes. In a small group setting, your instructor will guide you through a series of power and momentum based movements that will get your heart pumping and your muscles burning. This is an intense cardio and strength training workout rolled into one.

No Limits Cardio
This class combines kickboxing, step, high intensity intervals & traditional high impact for a total cardio blast. Some choreography included. Class concludes with floor work and a final stretch.

Lean Body Strength Training
Strength training for the entire body! The
first 45 minutes alternates between the body’s
major muscle groups. The last 15 minutes includes floor work – anything from Pilates and yoga to resistance ball and mat work. *It’s recommended that you warm up for 5-10 minutes prior to class.

SilverSneakers Muscular Strength Range of Movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and ease of daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance and chair is used for seated and/or standing support

SilverSneakers YogaStretch
YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Yoga
Tighten and tone the body, enhance balance, improve flexibility and build core strength through different yoga poses and focused breathing. This mid-body workout improves health, athletic performance and mental acuity in people of all ages and fitness levels!

Cycling Classes

Indoor Cycling
During a cycling class your instructor will simulate a group ride as you travel on flat roads, climb hills, chase the pack, or race to the finish line! All levels welcome.

Perpetual Motion
per-pet-u-al/ adjective. Continuing or enduring forever; everlasting.
This class alternates bouts of cycling and bouts of strength training off the bike. A great combination of strength and cardio that will leave you asking for more!
